The process
Blow molding or blow forming produces hollow plastic parts.
The plastic is melted and formed into a preform - a tube with a hole in one end. It is clamped into a mould, which is the shape of the finished part.
Compressed air is pumped through the hole into the preform. The air pressure inflates the preform out against the mould, so that it takes the shape of the mould, and the finished part, but with a hollow void in the middle.
When the plastic is cool and hard the mould is opened and the part ejected.
