Hygienic Solutions produce, install and maintain waterless urinals.
The Problem:
Kevin McDermott, Director of Hygienic Solutions says "Having worked as a distributor in the industry, I became aware that although many companies claimed to be interested in conservation, they did not seem concerned that hundreds of thousands of the plastic units used in waterless urinals were simply being thrown away once they had run out. I saw this gap in the market and used my own money to finance the project to develop a recyclable alternative."
The Challenge:
Hygienic Solutions challenged MotionTouch to help create a recyclable plastic waste outlet unit that would sit in the plug hole of a urinal bowl and remove the need for water to be used.
The Process:
MotionTouch guided Hygienic Solutions through the entire development process, from developing the initial designs and functionality of the product, through to creating a prototype, tooling and finally manufacturing.
The Solution:
MotionTouch worked closely with Hygienic Solutions to meet the company's specifications and successfully produced the world's first recyclable waterless urinal unit that could be easily opened and cleaned so that the product did not have to be thrown away after a few months.
The product allows companies that install the unit to qualify for conservation grants and it also helps local governments meet national water targets.
The Product:
The product consists of a plastic dome at the top of the unit, a sanitising block that cleans, foams, freshens and prevents limescale, as well as a screen to stop the ingress of foreign materials and a non-return valve to prevent drain odours.
The Outcome:
Since its launch Hygienic Solutions have sold thousands of units and regularly place orders for more units from MotionTouch. Hygienic Solutions has also gone on to make an accessory for the outlet unit which allows ordinary urinals to accommodate the recyclable unit.
